    Case Studies : Enterprise Rent-A-Car

Enterprise Rent-A-Car is one of the largest rental car companies in the world, with more than 5,000 locations and 50,000 employees throughout the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Canada and the United States.

Enterprise has followed a simple philosophy for more than 40 years: Put customers and employees first, and business success will inevitably follow. We believe that we have achieved our success through the hard work and dedication of our employees, and we are committed to providing all of our employees with the respect, training and opportunities to succeed. Diversity is a central goal in all areas of our business, and our commitment

to a diverse workplace extends to every employee, customer, and business partner. We strive to celebrate the many differences that make each of us unique, and know that it is these differences that help make Enterprise a successful business. It is our goal to create a culturally aware workforce and a culturally competent organisation that mirrors the makeup of the communities we serve.

    My Personal Enterprise

Nearly 100 percent of our employees start out in our Management Training Programme, which teaches employees how to run their own business. Every employee who serves customers at the front counter is actually learning the ins and outs of the business world, including managing profit-and-loss statements, controlling expenses and implementing a comprehensive business plan.

At Enterprise, employees are in charge of their careers and can set their own pace for their career growth. Because we strongly encourage a promote-from-within policy, after an individual starts as a management trainee in our rental car operation, how quickly he or she wants to advance is up to them. In fact, 99 percent of our current senior management - including our president and CEO - started as management trainees, staffing rental car offices and working with customers. This system allows everyone to learn our business from the ground up and understand how they have a significant financial interest in seeing it succeed.

At Enterprise, employees gain valuable and highly marketable skills in every aspect of business management - from sales and marketing and developing a staff to customer service and accounting. Yet, we're not all business all the time. Enterprise is also a tight knit culture, where great people really enjoy each other's company both in and outside of work.

Since our founding in 1957, our employees have always been empowered to make decisions that affect their work and their career. It is this philosophy, along with an unyielding dedication to the customer that has made Enterprise a true success story and a unique place to work.

    Our Doors are Open

Enterprise Rent-A-Car defines diversity as the many qualities and characteristics that make each individual unique. We believe that diversity is about understanding each other's unique characteristics and moving beyond simple tolerance to embracing these differences in order to make our company a place that is welcoming to all.

Enterprise has a network of dedicated employees - the Enterprise Diversity Team - who are committed to ensuring that Enterprise is recruiting, training, and retaining a diverse workforce. In addition, Enterprise has a Career and Family Focus Group that works to understand factors that have an impact on family life. The dedicated individuals who make up these groups gather to assess issues and make recommendations to improve the overall quality of life for all Enterprise employees. In short, we strive to ensure that our workplace is inclusive and supportive of people of all backgrounds.
